Chiropractic physicians treat and can help prevent injuries of the neck, back, shoulders, knees, and ankles, amongst other joints. They’re skilled in manual adjustments of the spine, ensuring that bones are lined up and balanced, which helps relieve tension in the body. Chiropractics will take care of your body, so it functions better and becomes less prone to injury. Through the use of medically approved techniques that focus on the management of sports injuries, restoration, and enhancement of joint function while resolving joint inflammation and reducing pain can improve healing and enhance performance. This hands-on therapy is often used to treat many injuries associated with sports activities and also relieves pain throughout the joints and muscles in the body. Overtraining, strong impacts, repeated movements, and lack of a proper warm-up are the significant reasons athletes suffer sports injuries. Chiropractic physicians help athletes by relieving their pain and assisting them to heal faster after an injury.

Regular visits to the Chiropractor result in fast recovery after training and games along with better balance and overall performance.

To start, the doctor will ask you questions about your health and perform a structural exam of your posture, spine and balance. He or she will also examine your back, extremities, tendons, ligaments and joints. Utilizing this information, your doctor will be able to determine what treatment would benefit you. In addition to treating injuries, physiotherapy by a Certified Sports Chiropractor can also help you prevent injuries from occurring.

If you’re experiencing pain from a sports injury, consider seeing a Certified Sports Chiropractor. You may want to schedule regular check-ups to prevent injuries from occurring and to keep your body performing properly.

Repetitive / Continuous Injury

Repetitive Injury

Repetitive strain injuries (RSI), also known as work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WRMSDs) affect nerves, tendons, tendon sheaths, muscles, and joints. They are also common in ahtletes. Patients with RSI experience occasional discomfort at first followed by persistent aching most commonly in the neck, forearms, shoulders, hands, elbows, wrists and lower limbs.

RSIs have a variety of causes such as repetitive tasks, rapid movements, forceful exertions, overuse, sustained/awkward positions, static loading, holding an unnatural posture and uncomfortable positioning of limbs.

Who is affected?
Since the 1970s RSIs of the arms, neck, hands, and shoulder have been attributed to the widespread use of the keyboard in the workplace. Although in the past they were most commonly found in persons who practiced sports such as tennis and golf; as a result, the use of terms “tennis elbow” or “golfer’s elbow.”
Many workers overlook the aches and pains caused by repetitive strain injuries, and they ignore the connection between the injury and the workplace. If the worker ignores RSIs, the consequences could be permanent and irreversible damage, evolving into chronic pain syndrome, or even worse some injuries can lead to severe crippling causing immobility for life.

RSI: The Causes
1. Rapid movement injuries, caused by repeated rapid movements.
2. Forceful exertions injuries, caused by the amount of muscular effort consumed to perform work such as lifting, pushing, dumping and transferring (it can range from small to great)
3. Static loading injuries, caused by maintaining prolonged static positions.

RSIs injuries are caused by static postures or excessive and repetitive movements while managing light as well as heavy loads.

A maintenance worker may get injured by repetitive use of force while working at an uncomfortable angle. VDT operators may sit in an awkward position with no wrist support and use rapid finger movements on a poorly designed keyboard. These workers may develop many severe injuries because of effects on their musculoskeletal system.

Any work that forces a person into an “unnatural” position can lead to repetitive strain injuries. The forceful twisting of a screwdriver, repetitive finger movements without rest, sitting in an uncomfortable position, bending the wrists for long periods, working with arms above shoulder length, gripping tools forcefully, etc., strain tendons, ligaments, and muscles causing injury.

Therapeutic Sports Massage

therapeutic sports massage

Therapeutic Massage is a combination of Relaxation Massage and Remedial Massage to not only relax your whole body but at the same time, work through some of the muscle issues or “tight spots”.

Massage therapy may also improve your circulation, which enhances the delivery of oxygen and nutrients to muscle cells and helps remove waste products or reduce swelling. These circulatory effects of massage may have value in the treatment of some inflammatory conditions, such as arthritis.

Massage therapy induces a relaxation response, which lowers your heart rate, breathing rate, and blood pressure; plus boosts your immune system; and generally decreases the physical effects of stress.

People of all ages can benefit from therapeutic massage. Massage is also suitable for people with disabilities, expecting mothers, and people in treatment for medical conditions, although some special precautions may need to be taken to protect the health of the client.

Therapeutic massage benefits the following conditions:
* Stress
* Anxiety
* General Wellbeing
* High Blood Pressure
* Arthritis
* Low Immunity
* Minor injuries

The best time for a therapeutic massage is when you feel yourself getting worked up or when you are just not feeling your best. Others find a regular therapeutic massage every month or once in a three months to get a great dose of prevention therapy. We even have some highly stressed patients who have weekly massages just to cope with daily life.

If you have never had a therapeutic massage before or it has been quite some time since your last massage then your initial treatment should ideally be for 60 to 90 minutes so that the therapist can work through those tired muscles at an even pace to minimise any possible soreness the following day. If you are a more regular massage recipient, your massage therapist will guide you as to the direction that works best for you and your muscles.

People can use therapeutic massage as a standalone treatment. Some people, such as athletes, labourers or stressed out even office workers, receive regular therapeutic massage to keep themselves in good physical condition.

Therapeutic goals can vary considerably between massage therapists and clients. In some cases, massage is recommended by a health professional and may be performed as part of a larger treatment plan. For example, someone attending physiotherapy for an injury might have regular therapeutic massage to loosen muscles, improve muscle tone, and increase their flexibility. Likewise, therapeutic massage can be used to supplement wound care, cancer care, and a variety of other treatments

Chiropractic Care / Physiotherapy

Chirpractic Care

Thank you for considering NICALI SPORTS MEDICINE AND ASSOCIATES for your needs in the field of physical medicine. We have x-rays facilities and are equipped to supervise and manage care through rehabilitation, strengthening and cardiovascular exercise.

The nervous system dominates all parts of your body. Therefore slight misalignments-called subluxations can be the origin of the improper function of the vertebral column. Moreover, they can also cause poor health or performance, even in areas far off the spine and the spinal cord. Misalignments can also reduce the ability of your body to adapt to its ever-changing environment. Likewise, the most insignificant malfunction of your spinal column may result in the alteration of the regular transmission of nerve impulses, preventing it from responding optimally.

Chiropractic means “to be done by hand,” and is a natural form of healthcare that focuses on the spinal adjustments and other joints of the body along with their connection to the nervous system. Chiropractors help correct misalignments of the spine and restore proper function to the nervous system, which allows your body to function at its optimum, this way helping your body to heal naturally without the use of drugs or surgery. A chiropractic spinal adjustment is an exact controlled force directed to a joint or a specific part of the spinal segment that helps correct the misalignment. Such an adjustment reduces pain, increases movement and helps your body not only to heal on its own but to improve performance.

Auto Accidents / Personal Injury

Auto Accidents Injury

Sustained spinal injury or a whiplash injury is often the cause of a sudden movement of the head, either forward, backward, or sideways, and it results in the damage of muscles or ligaments supporting the back, and connective tissues in the neck and upper back. Injuries occur when the force of an auto accident knocks or whips the musculoskeletal system out of proper alignment. The muscle ligament complex stretches beyond its’ physiological limits, causing tears known as strains and sprains in the tissue fibers. Very often people don’t seek treatment following a car accident because the symptoms of a whiplash injury do not manifest right away, and they may take weeks or months to show. Without proper treatment, these injuries can have a severe impact on your health, leading to months or even years of chronic pain.

We at Nicali Sports Medicine and Associates have substantial experience treating auto accident injury patients. We understand the best ways to manage injuries associated with car accidents for maximum recovery and healing.

Traditional health care after an auto accident injury often relies on prescription painkillers, which may provide immediate pain relief. However, medications don’t give a long-term pain management solution. Furthermore, rehabilitation is fundamental after a spine injury, since medication itself cannot help patients regain mobility.

Chiropractic care along with scientifically based physiotherapy treat the underlying spinal injury or whiplash injury. Chiropractors use adjustments to fix misalignments and relieve pressure on the nerves and muscles. The use of complementary therapies, which include corrective exercises, can reduce the effects of whiplash and assist the body in healing completely.

If you have recently been in a car accident, contact us as soon as possible. Acute and chronic pain both benefit from prompt treatment. With proper diagnostic care, we will be able to identify your underlying injuries and create a custom treatment program to support your body’s natural healing process. Even minor accidents at speeds as slow as 5mph can cause significant painful whiplash injuries by misaligning the cervical spine.

Since a fender bender is considered a “minor collision,” usually the accident victims postpone seeking treatment which can lead to a lifetime of health problems. Prompt care makes a difference!

Could you be suffering pain from whiplash or spinal injury? Accident injury pain symptoms include whiplash, neck and back pain, headaches, migraines, shoulder pain, fatigue, weakness, numbness or tingling in an upper or lower limb, jaw pain, and pain in the face.

If you have recently been in an auto accident, we are here to help. We accept health Insurance. If you are being represented by an attorney, we are experienced at management of injuries on a Medical Legal basis and can work with your attorney to help you resolve your claim with no cost to you. Contact us today to learn more about the benefits of chiropractic care for auto accident injuries!

Decompression Therapy

Decompression Therapy

A Non-Surgical, Highly Effective Solution for Disc Related Low Back and Neck Pain

With Decompression
you can find NEW hope for:

Chronic Shoulder, Elbow, Hip or Knee Pain
Bulging, ‘‘Slipped’’ Discs, Disc Degeneration
Injured or Chronic Persistent Joint Pain
Neck, migraine, or Other Headaches
Carpal Tunnel or Compressive Pain
Fibromyalgia or Myofascial Pain

Honest, effective, affordable decompression.

Decompression Therapy is a nonsurgical procedure that involves stretching the spine. The goal is to relieve the back pain or leg pain associated with disc herniation, degenerative discs, and other spinal related syndromes. The effects of time and gravity narrow the spaces between the vertebrae in the spine and narrow the disc spaces. This type of therapy effectively relieves pain and as a consequence opens the narrowed spaces, improving the healing process and permits most patients to return to an active lifestyle. This treatment helps patients to avoid the complications of back surgery such as the risk of anesthesia.

Decompression Therapy is a highly effective treatment recommended for patients who suffer from herniated, bulging, degenerative, or ruptured discs as well as sciatica, carpal tunnel syndrome and failed back surgery cases.

Decompression Therapy generally consists of 3-4 sessions per week, 8-12 minutes long each, during which the Chiropractic Physician applies to the patient electrical muscle stimulation, ultrasound, or therapeutic laser to relax the muscles and encourage the healing of injured tissues.

After treatment, the patient must do physical rehabilitation with specific exercises prescribed by the Chiropractor, to regain strength, mobility, fitness and recover fully.

The patients who get Decompression Therapy are fully dressed either face down or face up on the Chiropractic table. Most of them experience initial relief in just a few sessions.

Decompression Therapy is a nonsurgical, highly effective procedure approved and covered by many insurance companies. This advanced technique can bring you relief from neck and back pain.
